With winter sport at the end of its season for 2021, the touch season is just around the corner.

After not being able to select a committee two weeks ago due to a lack of attendees at the meeting held via zoom, last Tuesday a second meeting was held with all committee positions filled.

Numbers at this meeting were better with enough people showing up to elect a committee.

Aaron Kemp was selected as President, Amanda McPhail took on the Treasurer position with Jay Somers filling the Secretary role.

Last year, the competition was a success which saw 16 men’s teams, 8 women’s teams and 12 mixed teams.

Cootamundra Touch President Aaron Kemp said at the moment there is a bit of a cloud over the current season.

“We are hopeful that the season will go ahead but we are still waiting for the government to lift the ban on community sport.”

The competition is set for kick off in early November with Aaron hoping to field a number of grades in all competitions.

The competitions will be played over the same three days as last season.

The mixed competition will be played on Monday nights, the women’s competition on Wednesday nights and the men’s competition on Thursday nights.

Aaron is hoping the different competitions will field the same amount of teams as last years competition.

“We are hoping COVID hasn’t scared many people off. Numbers improved last year compared to the year before which surprised us as we were worried COVID would have caused people to not play.”

“We are also a bit worried as in the years before we have seen a slight decline in team numbers with one or two teams dropping off.”

“But last year we had more men’s teams which was up on the year before.”

“It was great to see new people get involved in the competition. We are hoping that everyone gets involved in the competitions again”

Nomination forms for this years competition are now available at the Ex-Services Carnival, Credit Union, Central Hotel and Family Hotel.

Nominations will close on October 25 at 5pm with a grading meeting to be held at the Ex-Services Club on the same night.

The competitions will kick off the week after with the women’s competition starting on November 3 and the men’s competition starting on November 4.

The mixed competition will then start later in November.

More information such as draws will be displayed on the Cootamundra Touch Football Facebook page when it becomes available.
